Westside Club News: June 2020

Club Refresh Project: During May and early June we took advantage of the empty rooms to engage in a Club Refresh Project. The first activity was giving the walls a fresh coat of paint, then we added new carpet in all therooms.

Last year, a member graciously offered commercial-grade carpet for the Library and Morgan Rooms (the two smaller rooms). We arranged with Ryan Floors, a carpet supplier/installer, to install this carpet and asked about pricing for new carpet in the large Carpenter and Taylor Rooms. When the carpet firm learned about the purpose of the Westside Club, they offered us warehouse stock (new carpet from other projects) at below cost. We are grateful to Ryan Floors for their generosity. Below is a crew member prepping the Taylor Room for new carpet install:

The project finished with our annual cleaning of hardwood and linoleum floors in the entrance and vending area, and installing new room signs. As we moved things around so the painting, carpet, and floor crews could work, we took the opportunity to do a lot of wiping, dusting, and reorganizing.

Special thanks to club members Kevin W., James R., Jonell M. for many hours planning and serving during the Club refresh, to the anonymous “Friends of Bill” who arranged for carpet discounting and donations, and to YOU for giving generously to meet Club operating expenses, so we were able to use reserve funds for the refresh project! Club Still Closed: At this time, Westside Club remains closed indefinitely. While we are encouraged by recent declines in COVID-19 metrics, government restrictions and our commitment to provide a safe and secure meeting place unfortunately mean we cannot set a reopening date at present. We continue to monitor news from local authorities, WAIA, and other sister clubs, and will communicate updates when we have them.

Online House Committee Meeting: The next meeting of the Westside Club House Committee will take place online on Monday June 29 at 6:30 p.m. All members are welcome to attend; for the Zoom link please email us at wsideclub@gmail.com.
